Classic car stereo shopping website
We have revamped our Classic car stereo website with a new eCommerce shopping portal. Recently we brought in from America the latest batch of car radio’s, speakers and aerials for old classic and restored cars. This range has the very latest modern electronics inside what looks like period head units with separate control spindles. There is a huge amount of different knobs and Fascia styles to choose from as well as special double voice coil speakers for single centre dash mount and also special hide away aerials so you don’t have to cut holes in your precious classic cars.
The old www.retrocarstuff.com website needed a spruce up anyway and now it has a much slicker shopping experience using Opencart and a theme that matches the original site layout.

Colin McDonald Appliance Repair East Lothian
Simple little site to promote hard working self employed washing machine repair man.
This was made for a bit of fun for a pug mad lady (my wife). No point having a web designer in the family if you can’t have a freebie eh? However with my business head on I have to point out that you too can have a simple three page website like this where you can upload your own content with your mobile phone for very little money and with our easy monthly terms it is a steal. If you are interested web design contact me please.
We built a website for Graze coffee shop in Dunbar a number of years ago. The owners asked us to make it more modern and the main brief was to have changing dynamic front page content. We rebuilt the site using the latest Genesis framework and integrated a Facebook auto posting system so that when the owners Lorraine and Martin wanted to have new content on the site it would also appear in their other social media sites. Lorraine is very forward thinking and is always coming up with great ideas for her business; being a busy lady the problem of finding the time to learn how to login to the website back-end to create new content was overcome by our integration of a phone application that would allow her to create new posts and publish them on the go directly from her phone, problem solved.
The next stage for this website is to integrate shopping facilities so that the excellent hampers and chocolate products can be purchased online for home delivery.
Our next project is to build a new website for a local barbers shop so watch this space…
We have installed a new service on our websites called “ClickDesk”. It allows our customers to instantly chat and get help from one of our operators while we are open and when we are closed a message can be left which we will respond to next day. If you would like this system installed in your website contact us for a free quotation.
This system is active on all our websites and does require that at least one operator is present during normal working hours. So far it has proven to be a great asset and has already resulted many happy customers and a few deals closed
The Claremont Hotel project
This family run Hotel in central Edinburgh had a very basic website designed way back in the dark ages of the internet. Mandy and Alex White commissioned us to make a new website with a modern style and online booking form. We are also promoting this site with an ongoing SEO package.
Previously only three pages could be found on Google and already after only three days live the whole site is being indexed by Google and we have ensured that any links from the old site found on Google go to the correct pages. We also made a Facebook business page and Google plus account for this business so our next task is to drive traffic so if anyone would like to help us please like www.facebook.com/claremonthoteledinburgh
The new site
The Old Site
Our latest project has just been completed and we are proud to present www.bestcarantenna.co.uk Our recent carsound website was so successful that we decided to create a place where customers looking to replace a broken car aerial or bent mast could quickly find the best replacement. We have specialist antennas for digital, DAB, GSM, TETRA band etc and although we have always had access to these products this is the first time we have brought all these together in one easy to navigate website. Using only the highest quality products from Hirschmann, Alpine and other suppliers that we know offer great service and guarantees we hope to offer peace of mind that our car antenna products will result in the very best signal to your tuner.
Our next project is for an Edinburgh hotel and we are also working on an Insurance Brokers site which we will bring you news of soon, watch this space as they say.
How did we improve an already good website so dramatically?
The story started when my wife was looking for a good value airport taxi service from Edinburgh airport to our home in Dunbar for a recent holiday. She found CJ Chauffeur drive to be the least expensive by a long way, and so it was when we were being wafted along in an immaculate Mercedes at three in the morning that our friendly driver Hamish (who was also one of the owners) told us about his website (prompted a little by me
When Hamish told us they already had a website and were paying an SEO company to keep them on top, I thought, hey ho, another opportunity lost, however when I got back to the office I had a wee look at CJ’s website and ran a complete “Sitebeam” scan on it. I was surprised that what looked like a content rich clean site could have such a low score of only 2.1. After further investigation I could see how I could make improvements and contacted him with an offer to help. I offered some further SEO and analytics work and a meeting with the other directors was arranged.
I met with Hamish, Neil and Liz and was pleasantly surprised with the level of technical knowledge and understanding, especially from Liz who had done all the work on their existing website which had been built using a Vistaprint template service. This explained the sites low technical score. Liz had done an excellent job of creating lots of relevant content, well navigated pages and nice but oversized images which were slowing the site down. Liz already knew the main limitation of her site was the Vistaprint platform so we agreed that I would build a brand new WordPress site from scratch on our own servers.
Quite often when we start a new project the hardest part is getting information and content from the client, then training them to drive their new site can often be a challenge with non techie people but this site was a refreshing change. No having to wait a week for a reply to our emails or explaining everything three times. Liz quickly chose the theme for the new site and provided a disc with high res images, maybe it’s because the directors of this company all have Police experience that they just get things done, anyway a pleasure to work with.
Dealing with Vistaprint was fairly straightforward. Migrating the domain was easy but the emails were a bit of a pain however when the site was finished and run through “Sitebeam” once more I was very pleasantly surprised to see a fantastic score of 7.1 All we need to do now is some SEO and keyword research as well as improve the Twitter and Facebook fan page following to see it we can get it even better.
We designed and built a specialist website called “Shelfhelp” for P&G over twelve months ago. This site was designed to help Procter & Gambles customers and small shopkeepers to optimize the layout of products on their shelves. As new products are released the need for fresh Plano-grams was called for and so we have just completed the latest refresh of this site.
The original brief for www.shelfhelp.co.uk was for a responsive parallax design which would have dynamic shelve pop-up images that would work on all platforms and mobile devices. There were several ways to tackle a job like this and because of the constraints of dealing with P&G’s outside media company, I can say that there were some challenging times in finishing the original site to spec, however this re-build has been conducted directly with the parent company so from my point of view a pleasure to deal with and progress was much quicker this time round.
This is such a specialist website that is promoted internally by P&G’s professional sales people to their direct customers that it at first glance not seem interesting to the casual observer but it certainly surprised me to know that this company has so many brands and that it’s so important how they are displayed. I love my job
This was an interesting project, we have just launched The Philosophy Cat website for a local artist whose eye for detail is amazing. Gillian Taylor from Haddington East Lothian is a fully trained and qualified M.Sc. Forensic Artist and Craniofacial Reconstruction Practitioner (CRP) as well as portrait artist and sculptor.
Gillian makes a range of greetings cards plus Original designs and handmade prints with her own artwork creations and witty or thoughtful quotes on them. The unique thing is Gillian can create a likeness of your own pet and turn them into cards or prints or even a bronze statue if you so desire.
Our brief on this build was to provide simplicity and clean design with functionality discreetly built in to make an interesting shopping experience for the user. Communication between website visitor and Gillian is by phone or contact form with the ability to upload images of your own pet for Gillian to render in pen and ink or pencil drawing before creating your finished product.
Unusually for us we did not have a lot of image work to do because as you can imagine someone with Gillian’s skills was able to provide much of the beautiful artwork you see on the site, we enjoy working with and look forward to help develop The Philosophy Cat further.
Who knows maybe Mr Andy Murray will see the remarkable bust that has been made of him and buy it perhaps!
Latest Christmas menus added to one of our oldest customers Hotel and Restaurant websites, The Rocks Dunbar. Phone 01368 862287 Just voted one of the top ten restaurants in Scotland by the Sunday Times food list. Well worth a visit.
We have just completed another new website especially to promote the Four Master concept and products. See it here..

The good folks at Barter or Buy had us build a new website for them some time ago and although they were happy with the simple WordPress site they ordered it was soon apparent that their booming business had outgrown the site and so we build them a brand new eCommerce solution using Opencart so now they can showcase their extensive range of new, refurbished and second hand goods. Their prices are fantastic, go check it out at www.barterorbuy.co.uk .
Peter and Debbie from Barter or Buy (now trading as Bargain Appliances) have been very busy populating the new site with products and Peter has mastered the art of creating web banners, all the artwork is his. The midnight oil that Debbie burned making sure all the stock and product descriptions were right has paid off.
We also created a fully integrated point of sale system so that all their branches (presently in Musselburgh and Leith) with more to follow, can ensure that stock levels are kept accurate on the website at all times.
This was an interesting project for us which took about six weeks from start to finish (including bespoke POS system) Our easy ongoing monthly terms will also ensure that the off-page SEO (Search Engine Optimization) campaign continues to promote the site and of course our back up service is always available and being used quite a lot just now while they and their staff are learning the ropes.
Next stage is to build their Facebook business page which is in progress, please pop over there and like it facebook.com/bargainappliances
We are currently working on two more projects, watch this space for more information coming soon.

Ray Smith; born in Edinburgh 1948 having enjoyed Arts and Science at school, left at the age of fifteen wanting to pursue a career in lithography but couldn’t find work so took a temporary job in a garage as an apprentice motor mechanic.
In 1975 he started his own business repairing Car radios having worked as an auto electrician and then radio installer/repair engineer. This business blossomed and provided Ray with some great times and happy memories. Ray’s artistic side was kept alive with his photography hobby and when the internet came along the same inquisitive nature that made him want to know how things worked (car radio’s etc) found him learning how to make websites and put his art online.
The personal touch that Ray brings to the website business is appreciated by his clients. From complete computer novices to multinational companies Ray takes the time to explain in terms that can be understood by all.
Having completed some small web design projects for local companies and some larger corporate design work Ray is finally doing what he loves most.
Ray noticed that the same concerns were being expressed by prospective clients. The lack of relevant content or in fact the inability to either think up the words or find the time in their working day to devote to web content and price, so he put his mind to these two opportunities.
- Ray came up with the idea of spreading the cost to help with cash-flow and websitelocal.co.uk was born.
- By offering to visit local companies and spend time asking about the business Ray can very often write much of the content and using special tools come up with the best keywords for SEO etc.
